Great. I think this is a nice useable format. Also it's easy enough to have this with more information in the normal text after the template.

What's intended for the "footnotes" bit? I suspect any general/extra information about the program could just go in normal wiki text under the template?

How about a Description entry in the tempate for a one-line description?

Is there any way to change what happen when items in the template aren't present? An image, for example?

Well, according to the site something in the form: {{{fieldname|}}} should appear as blank, and {{{fieldname|something else}}} should display the something else. When I was testing it, it just showed everything after the bar, including trailing braces.

The footnotes field was already there. Feel free to remove, amend etc.

Also the whole thing is positionable with CSS. It expects to find a class: "infobox bordered", which the current stylesheet doesn't have, but I'm planning on bringing up stylesheets in a separate comment at some point.
