Tek 1608 Reviewed Review by Rob J
TEK is Artex Software's latest release and probably their last. I must say that this is excellent value for money, you don’t just get TEK 1608 but you also get Exodus, Ankh, Botkiller 1, 2 and a patch for Ankh, and all for only £30!
There’s no music but what was quite impressive was that the units can talk and the graphics are very good to think that more recent releases like Desktop Repton PLUS have worse graphics. TEK was over before I knew it, 12 levels and no level editor or expansion pack(s) available makes the lifespan of TEK quit short. Great for a bored teenager or even a 30 year old on a quiet weekend.
Online play would have extended the lifespan lots but was never added, although it was promised, there are 2 official patches available called Pyro and Pyro 2. TEK 1608 will not run natively on a 32-Bit RISC OS machine and is unstable with Aemulor Pro so this can only be played on a RISC PC, A7000, R7500+ or Mico with RISC OS 3.10 or better or a Virtual RISC PC, but you must have a CD-Rom drive with at least 8MB RAM to play.
If someone had a load of spare time and created lots of new levels and a level editor then this game will be a lot bigger. A game that any RISC OS gamer should have, mainly because it contains all of Artex's previous work on 2 CDs. Wonderful!
Thank you for the contribution, Rob J
