Talk:RISC OS
Whilst you cannot edit the front page itself, it actually includes sub pages which you should be able to edit.
If someone wanted to take charge of the front page and have a more sensible/fancy layout, I'd be all for that. I've not used the image upload mechanism myself, but you should be able to use it. If you can't, then I'll see what I can do.
Editing the front page
As Peter said, sections of the front page are editable. For those who are lost and confused, you need to go to RISC OS/News, RISC OS/Projects and RISC OS/Articles to edit the three sections. I've added the sections mentioned above.
As regards adding images, they would need to be uploaded, which is currently disabled. Could uploading of eg: jpegs and pngs be allowed?
Front page management
It would help if we knew precisely what kind of information would be expected on a front page. Currently, there's:
- Site info
- News
- Projects
- Articles
I'd suggest splitting Projects and Articles into more subsections, as Projects specifically is huge, and will only increase.
What is the opinion regarding several possible layouts using CSS?
Front page
Use your imagination. As long as it's stylish, easily maintainable and presents all the relevant information, I'll consider anything.
Front Page Sub-Page Names
Is it possible to change the sub-page titles? I've suggested (on the articles sub-page) that the "RISC OS C Programming" page be renamed to just "RISC OS Programming". Adamr 13:01, 8 Jan 2007 (GMT)
Seconded. I would like a page on the use of scripting languages in RISC OS; what is available for which platforms, and how they can be used. This should be a subsection of a more general section on programming. C and Basic are obviously of fundamental importance to RISC OS, but there are many more specialized languages available for more specialized tasks. I think it is worth letting the public know what is available and what are the merits and demerits of each. Gavin Wraith 14:15, 28/03/2007
Well, Adam renamed the subsection (which is now 'RISC OS Programming'). If you want an article on scripting languages, why don't you create one with what you know and then others can expand it? Caliston 12:52, 29 Mar 2007 (BST)
MediWiki upgrade
If it were any other piece of software on the system, I wouldn't hesitate at an upgraded, but there are significant changes in later versions of MediaWiki, and it would require a big investment of time. Unfortunately, the provisions for avoid spammers in the current version are pretty limited, and you can't even delete accounts - Peter.
Thanks to the persistence in dealing with these guys, and just general updates. I hope to do an update soon, but I doubt it will be until near the end of the month - Peter
