Perhaps you can tell us what GCC version you're using, but 'as' isn't
really meant be called directly under RISC OS, as calling 'gcc' does
the job just as well (or better in some cases).
The issue here is a missing default in make. AS=gcc should work in the
top of the Makefile as work around.
