Yes, it's the same with -static. A similar thing happens with the trig
functions from <math.h>. It only happens when the argument is a literal
constant, not a variable:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <math.h>
int main(void) {
  printf("%f\n",sqrt(2.0));
  double x=2.0;
  printf("%f\n",sqrt(x));
  return 0;
}

1.437500
1.414214
